A sport in which two players, or two teams of two players each, or a team against a team, play against each other on a court divided in half by a cross net.
It is considered that tennis was invented in the 14th century on the territory of modern France. The French nobility admired the so-called ‘hand game’ (‘je de pom’), which greatly influenced the development of modern tennis. It is believed that the word ‘tennis’ originated from the Old French word ‘tenèts’, which was spoken by the player while serving the ball. Later, the English borrowed this word and adapted it to their language.
